Eslyn is a grapic designer.
Eslyn Heng aka Nylse
Favourite place on earth?
Anywhere where there is zero stress. Basically anywhere in the world when I’m on vacation.
How would you describe yourself in five words?
Boots, Metalhead, Black, Happy and Tired.
How did you get started in graphic design?
I’ve always liked drawing. There was this one time when I was in primary school, I was nine, I drew a scene from Bruce Almighty, and some girl reported me to the teacher for having written the word ‘Boob’. Funny thing was, I didn’t even spell it right. ‘Bob’. I wrote ‘Bob’. That didn’t stop me from drawing, not even when I went through three years of a Diploma in Advertising. After graduating, I figured I knew what I wanted to do. I ended up enrolling into RMIT and studying Design Communication. But is that honestly what I truly want for myself? Until now it’s still a journey to figure out what I really want to do.
What’s your drink of choice?
Tea and beer, but never together.
Who or what inspires you?
Currently I have an array of artists, people and animals that I follow to keep me in a positive and creative mindset. I like to follow people who are passionate about their work, you can actually feel the blood, sweat and tears pouring out from a single digital image. Here’s a few Instagram pages I follow: @staybold, @lawprints, @tommyrts (I’m obsessed with Shiba Inus).
Where would we find you on a Sunday morning?
I would really love to say you’d find me still snoozing in bed under the warm sheets, but in reality I’m out there making money to pay for rent.
What are your plans for the future?
Uncertainty is scary and that’s what I’m facing currently.
Where do you feel most creative?
It might not be surprising but I don’t have a set physical space where I get creative. It all happens when there’s music. Music is my creative space. It drowns out the clutter in the background and removes me from the space I’m currently in. My ideas just ow from there. Also sleep, sleep is important.
Who is the women who you look up to and why?
I look up to all women in general who are not afraid of putting themselves out there and standing up for themselves.
